According to the latest report from the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the state’s wind farms generated approximately 39 million megawatt-hours (MWh) in the first six months, surpassing previous records and underscoring Texas's dominance in the renewable energy sector.
The continued expansion of wind energy in the state is largely attributed to ongoing investments by major players such as NextEra Energy and Pattern Energy, which have recently completed new projects in the Panhandle region. These developments have allowed for greater efficiency and capacity, enabling them to harness wind resources effectively even during dry spells.

Moreover, as demand for energy continues to rise in urban areas like Dallas and Austin, the Texas grid is increasingly reliant on renewable sources to avoid strain during peak consumption periods. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) has reported that wind energy accounted for approximately 30% of the state's total energy generation in June 2026, an unprecedented figure.
