In an unprecedented move, three of Texas' leading technology firms—Dell Technologies, Palo Alto Networks, and AT&T—have announced a strategic partnership aimed at bolstering cybersecurity across the state. This initiative comes at a crucial time as cyber threats have surged by an alarming 30% in the past year alone, with the Texas Cybersecurity, Infrastructure Protection, and Security Advisory Committee noting that small to medium-sized businesses are particularly vulnerable.
The partnership, dubbed “Cyber Shield Texas,” will invest $50 million over the next five years into enhancing cybersecurity measures for local businesses, educational institutions, and governmental organizations. Each company will contribute technical expertise, resources, and personnel to develop a comprehensive security framework that aims to prevent cyberattacks and protect sensitive information.
“As the landscape of cyber threats evolves, so must our defenses,” said AT&T Chief Security Officer, John Donovan. “This collaboration reflects our commitment to safeguarding Texas’ digital ecosystem and ensuring that businesses can operate without the fear of cyber breaches.”
Austin, home to a burgeoning tech scene, is set to host a series of workshops and training sessions as part of the initiative, targeting over 1,000 businesses in the region. The first workshop is scheduled for September 15, 2026, and will focus on best practices for cybersecurity hygiene, risk assessment, and incident response.
Furthermore, the initiative will establish a Cybersecurity Advisory Board composed of industry experts, which will be responsible for assessing ongoing threats and recommending improvements to security policies. The board will hold quarterly meetings, with the first set to take place in December 2026.
This partnership aligns with the Texas government's ongoing efforts to improve cybersecurity resilience, particularly in light of recent high-profile attacks that have targeted state agencies.
