Texas Tech Firms Rally to Combat Cybersecurity Threats Amid Rising Incidents

In the wake of escalating cybersecurity threats targeting businesses across the globe, Texas technology firms are increasingly banding together to bolster their defenses against cyberattacks.

As of June 2026, Texas reported a staggering 40% increase in cybersecurity breaches compared to the previous year, according to the Texas Department of Information Resources. This sharp rise in incidents has prompted a coalition of local companies, including Dell Technologies in Round Rock and AT&T in Dallas, to develop a unified response strategy.

"Cybersecurity is no longer just an IT issue; it's a business imperative," stated Mark O’Connell, Chief Information Security Officer at Dell. "We need to work collaboratively to share information and resources, ensuring the safety of our digital infrastructures."

The coalition, dubbed the Texas Cyber Defense Alliance, aims to facilitate information sharing regarding threats and mitigation strategies among its members. Companies involved in this initiative are pooling resources to create a state-of-the-art cybersecurity operations center, set to open in Austin by the end of 2026.

Moreover, a recent report by CyberTexas, a nonprofit dedicated to cybersecurity education, emphasized that the state is home to over 5,000 cybersecurity firms, contributing to a $30 billion industry in Texas. These companies recognize that a collective approach may be the most effective way to combat sophisticated cyber threats.

The coalition is also pushing for enhanced cybersecurity education in local schools and universities. Collaborations with institutions such as the University of Texas at Austin and Texas A&M University are underway to create programs that will equip students with the skills necessary to enter and innovate in the cybersecurity field.
