Texas is rapidly emerging as a leader in solar energy, as corporate giants make substantial investments in renewable projects across the state.
With over 12,000 megawatts of installed solar capacity as of mid-2026, Texas is now ranked first in the nation for solar energy generation. Companies such as Apple and Amazon are leading the charge, committing billions to develop large-scale solar farms in areas like Fort Worth and San Antonio.
In June 2026, Apple announced a $1 billion investment to build a solar array in Fort Worth that is expected to generate 2,000 megawatts of clean energy. This project is part of Apple’s broader initiative to power all of its operations globally with 100% renewable energy by 2030.
“Investing in renewable energy is not just a commitment to sustainability; it’s a business strategy that positions us for long-term growth,” said Lisa Jackson, Apple’s Vice President of Environment, Policy, and Social Initiatives. “Texas offers a unique opportunity to harness solar power, and we are excited to be part of its energy evolution.”
Furthermore, Amazon has pledged to procure 1.5 gigawatts of renewable energy from Texas solar projects by 2027, further cementing the state's role in the corporate shift towards sustainability. The company’s commitment is projected to prevent the release of 3.9 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
The Texas Solar Power Association estimates that by 2027, the state could see an additional 10,000 megawatts of solar capacity installed, fueled by technological advancements and declining costs. Texas’s vast open land and abundant sunshine make it an ideal location for solar farms, attracting both domestic and foreign investments.
Local governments are also taking notice. The city of San Antonio has implemented incentives to attract solar developers, including tax breaks and expedited permitting processes. These policies have already resulted in a surge of new solar projects coming online, contributing to job creation and economic development in the region.
