In a remarkable evolution of its energy landscape, Texas has achieved a significant milestone in solar energy production, becoming the leading state in the United States for solar output as of August 2026.
According to the latest report from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), Texas produced over 36,000 megawatt-hours of solar power in the first half of 2026, marking a 25% increase from the same period last year. The surge in production is attributed to a mix of factors, including favorable weather conditions and increased investments by major solar developers.
Leading the charge is Austin-based SunPower Corp, which has recently completed the installation of a 100 MW solar farm near Abilene.
