Farmers in the thriving Gulf Coast region, particularly in areas like Wharton and Matagorda counties, are increasingly adopting precision agriculture techniques to monitor and manage pest populations. High-resolution drones and satellite imagery are being utilized to detect pest infestations early, allowing farmers to respond proactively.
"Technology has become our best ally in the fight against pests," stated Anna Ramirez, a rice farmer in Wharton County. "With drones, we can cover vast areas in a fraction of the time it would take us on foot. This not only saves us time but also reduces pesticide use, which is better for the environment."
The Texas Rice Producers Board has reported that the integration of these technologies has led to a 15% reduction in pesticide application on average, improving both yield and sustainability.
