The Texas hemp industry is experiencing unprecedented growth following the passage of the 2025 Hemp Bill, which streamlined regulations and provided financial incentives for farmers to cultivate hemp.
According to the Texas Department of Agriculture, the number of licensed hemp growers in the state has surged by 300%, jumping from 200 in 2024 to over 800 by mid-2026. The economic impact is significant, with estimates suggesting that the hemp industry could generate upwards of $1 billion annually by 2028.
One of the state's leading hemp producers, Austin-based GreenHarvest, has reported a record harvest this year, yielding over 1,500 acres of high-quality hemp for CBD extraction. “The market is expanding rapidly, and we are excited to be at the forefront of this industry,” stated CEO James Thompson. “With the new regulations in place, we can better serve our clients and contribute to the local economy.”
The legislative changes have also attracted investor interest, with venture capital firms pouring millions into Texas hemp startups. Recent investments include a $10 million funding round for a new processing facility in San Antonio, which aims to create over 200 jobs in the region.
Despite this growth, challenges remain, particularly in the areas of quality control and market saturation. Farmers are urged to adopt best practices and stay informed about market trends to succeed in the competitive landscape. “Education and collaboration are key to our success,” said Thompson. “The more we share knowledge, the stronger our industry becomes.”
