In an effort to strengthen their competitive edge, Texas credit unions are expanding services to better meet the needs of their members amidst economic challenges.

With inflation affecting everyday expenses, credit unions across the state are responding by diversifying their product offerings. United Heritage Credit Union, based in Austin, has recently introduced a new high-yield savings account that offers members a competitive 3.25% APY, significantly higher than the national average of 0.06% as reported in June 2026.

“We want to provide our members with attractive savings options that make their money work harder,” said Tommy Heng, CEO of United Heritage Credit Union. “In these uncertain times, it’s crucial that we offer financial products that support their long-term goals.”

In addition to high-yield savings accounts, many credit unions are also rolling out financial education programs that focus on budgeting and debt management. In Houston, Texans Credit Union has partnered with local non-profits to offer free workshops aimed at helping members navigate their finances effectively.

“Our members are facing real financial hurdles, and we believe education is key to overcoming these challenges,” remarked Laura Peterson, Director of Community Outreach at Texans Credit Union. “By equipping them with the right tools and knowledge, we can help them make informed decisions.”

To further assist members, credit unions are also enhancing their digital platforms. The Texas Credit Union League reports that many institutions are investing in mobile app improvements and online banking enhancements, making it easier for members to manage their finances from home.

As Texas credit unions adapt to the evolving financial landscape, they are also focusing on member retention. With traditional banks tightening their lending criteria, many credit unions are positioning themselves as community-focused alternatives that prioritize member service over profit.

“We are not just here to provide loans; we’re here to build relationships,” said Erin Cummings, President of the Texas Credit Union League. “Our mission is to serve our members, especially in challenging times.”

Despite the challenges posed by rising interest rates and inflation, Texas credit unions remain resilient. Their commitment to serving members with innovative products and services is a testament to their adaptability in an ever-changing financial landscape.
