Once a powerhouse of citrus production, Texas has seen a dramatic decline in its citrus output over the past decade, largely attributed to the spread of Huanglongbing (HLB) disease, which has devastated orange groves across the state. According to the Texas Citrus Mutual, production fell from 1.6 million boxes in 2016 to just 500,000 boxes in 2025.
In response to these challenges, growers are rallying around innovative solutions to revive the industry. Recent advancements in genetic research have led to the development of disease-resistant citrus varieties.
