In the face of rising interest rates and economic turbulence, San Antonio's housing market is demonstrating notable resilience, establishing itself as a beacon of stability in Texas.
Recent statistics from the San Antonio Board of Realtors indicate that home sales in the area declined by only 5% year-over-year, significantly less than the national average of 12%. Moreover, the median home price has held steady at around $320,000, reflecting a strong demand that continues to attract both local and out-of-state buyers.
“San Antonio’s diverse economy, bolstered by sectors like healthcare and cybersecurity, is helping to sustain our housing market,” stated David Smith, the president of the San Antonio Board of Realtors. “We’re seeing buyers who are drawn to the city’s affordability compared to other Texas markets.”
The city's strong job growth, projected at 3.5% for 2026, has played a crucial role in maintaining housing demand. Notably, employers such as USAA and Valero Energy are expanding their operations in the area, adding more jobs and attracting a steady influx of residents.
Additionally, developers are responding to this robust demand by increasing their focus on constructing single-family homes. Recent projects include the development of the $150 million Stone Oak residential community, which aims to deliver 500 new homes by 2027.
“We’re committed to meeting the housing needs of our growing population,” stated Sarah Johnson, project manager for the Stone Oak community. “This project is designed with families in mind, focusing on both affordability and quality.”
While the national market faces uncertainties, San Antonio’s strategic position and economic fundamentals indicate a positive outlook. Real estate experts suggest that the city may continue to attract buyers seeking stability, particularly as other regions experience more pronounced slowdowns.
“People are looking for places where they can plant roots,” noted Smith. “San Antonio, with its affordability and job opportunities, remains an attractive option.”
