According to a recent report from the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), the number of reported cyber incidents has surged by 40% over the past year. In response, local organizations and the government are doubling down on their efforts to combat these threats.
The city is home to numerous cybersecurity firms, including ThreatGuard, a startup that specializes in advanced threat detection technologies. Founded in 2023, ThreatGuard recently secured $10 million in funding to expand its operations and hire additional cybersecurity experts.
“The need for robust cybersecurity solutions has never been more critical,” said CEO Michael Rivera. “San Antonio is becoming a hub for innovation in this field, and we are excited to be part of it.”
In addition to private sector efforts, local universities are ramping up their cybersecurity programs to prepare the next generation of tech professionals. The University of Texas at San Antonio has announced a partnership with the National Security Agency (NSA) to develop cutting-edge curriculum and research initiatives.
The partnership aims to create a talent pipeline that will not only benefit local companies but also bolster national security. With an annual budget of $5 million, the initiative will support scholarships, internships, and research grants.
San Antonio’s cybersecurity sector appears poised for growth, with projections indicating that the local industry could generate over $1 billion in revenue by 2028. As organizations globally seek to strengthen their defenses, the city is ready to lead the charge in cybersecurity innovation.
