In response to escalating housing costs, San Antonio officials have unveiled a comprehensive affordable housing initiative aimed at curtailing the growing crisis affecting low- and middle-income residents. The program, estimated to invest $100 million over the next five years, will focus on creating new affordable units and rehabilitating existing properties.
San Antonio's housing market has experienced a surge in prices, with the median home price reaching $325,000 in June 2026, a 20% increase from the previous year. Local government data indicates that more than 40% of San Antonio residents are now cost-burdened, spending over 30% of their income on housing.
