Amid ongoing tensions between local governments and the state legislature, several Texas cities are mobilizing to demand greater autonomy over their policies.

Recent state laws have restricted the ability of cities like Austin and Houston to implement their own regulations regarding housing, public health, and environmental protections. City officials argue that these restrictions undermine local governance and do not reflect the needs of their communities.

Austin Mayor Tom McClintock stated, "We know our cities best. The state must respect our right to govern ourselves and address local issues effectively."
